Avomec Duel Sheep Drench is for the control and treatment of roundworms, nasal bot, itch mites, and mature and late immature liver fluke in sheep, with activity against resistant strains of Barbers Pole worm (including strains resistant to both abamectin and closantel) and 6-week sustained activity against closantel-susceptible Barber’s Pole worm (including strains resistant to macrocyclic lactones).

For sheep producers in grazing areas where Barber’s Pole Worm are active, Avomec Duel Sheep Drench offers dual action parasite control with the benefit of:

  • Broad-spectrum control of all major roundworms, lungworms and liver fluke; and
  • Sustained activity against closantel-susceptible Barber’s Pole Worms.

Indications:

At the recommended dosage level, Avomec Duel Sheep Drench provides treatment and control of the following sensitive strains of sheep parasites:

  • Barbers Pole Worm (Haemonchus contortus)

Avomec Duel Sheep Drench is active against resistant strains of Barbers Pole Worm, including those resistant to both closantel and abamectin.

Avomec Duel also has sustained activity against closantel susceptible Barbers Pole Worm:

  • It prevents sheep re-infection for up to 6 weeks after drenching.
  • It also limits pasture contamination with faecal eggs for up to 6 weeks after drenching.

Directions Of Use

Dose Rate:

  • 1 mL / 5 kg body weight (ie 200 micrograms abamectin and 10 mg closantel per kg body weight).  Administered orally.
  • Animals in excess of 80 kg to be dosed at 2 mL / 10 kg body weight.
  • The Avomec Duel Sheep Drench dose rate of 1 mL/5 kg bodyweight is the same low dose as traditional sheep drenches and administration is by the oral route using any standard drenching equipment.
  • This makes drenching with Avomec Duel Sheep Drench easy and simple.
  • At the recommended dose rate, Avomec Duel Sheep Drench delivers 0.2 mg abamectin and 10 mg closantel per kg bodyweight.

Application:

  • Avomec Duel is administered orally using any standard drenching equipment that provides a consistent dose volume. 
  • Dose and equipment should be checked before drenching commences.

  • A representative sample of animals should be weighed before treatment. 
  • Dose rate according to the heaviest animal by liveweight in the group (ewes, rams, lambs, wethers, etc). 
  • Do not underdose. 
  • Where there is large variation in size within a group, dose rate should be based on label directions for each weight range. 
  • Drafting into two or more lines may be appropriate to avoid excessive overdosing. 
  • Avomec Duel is ready to use through standard equipment.

Tips For Use

Safety to Sheep:

  • Ewes may be treated at any stage of pregnancy.
  • Some sheep may cough slightly after treatment.
  • This passing response is of no consequence.

Restraints:

  • Do not use in ewes, which are producing or may in the future produce milk or milk products for human consumption.

Contraindications:

  • Do not use in lambs under six (6) weeks of age
  • Do not use in lambs less than 10 kg bodyweight.
  • Shake well before use.

Restance:

  • Resistance may develop to any drench.  Ask your local veterinary practitioner or animal heath adviser for recommended parasite management practices for your area to reduce development of resistance.  It is advisable that a drench-resistance test be conducted before any drench is used.
  • Avomec Duel can be used as a quarantine drench to prevent the introduction of resistant strains of Barbers Pole Worm onto a property. When used as a quarantine drench, it is advisable to hold treated sheep in treatment yards or on contaminated paddocks for 24 hours before introduction.

Storage:

  • Store below 30°C (Room Temperature).
  • Store locked up, in a well-ventilated place.
  • Keep container tightly closed.
  • Protect from sunlight.

Safety Directions:

  • Harmful if swallowed. 
  • Will irritate the eyes and skin. 
  • Repeated exposure may cause allergic disorders. 
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin. 
  • When using the product, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist, a washable hat, elbow-length PVC gloves and goggles. 
  • If clothing becomes contaminated with product, remove clothing immediately. 
  • If product on skin, immediately wash area with soap and water. 
  • If product in eyes, wash it out immediately with water. 
  • After use and before eating, drinking or smoking, wash hands, arms and face thoroughly with soap and water. 
  • After each day’s use, wash gloves, goggles and contaminated clothing.
  • Harmful if inhaled.
  • May cause respiratory irritation.
  • Avoid breathing fumes, mists, vapours or spray.
  • Do not get on clothing.
  • Use only outdoors or in a well ventilated area.
  • If swallowed, rinse mouth and call a poison centre or doctor if you feel unwell.
  • Do not induce vomiting.
  • If inhaled, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
  • If skin irritation occurs or eye irritation persists, get medical advice.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre, Phone 131126.
  • If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly.
